Custom Cabinets in Houston, TX

Built to the wall you actually have, in a climate that moves wood. Both facts change how cabinets should be made.

Most cabinets sold in Houston come in three-inch increments and get fitted to your room with filler strips. That works in a house built recently to standard dimensions. It works poorly in the 1960s through 1980s housing stock that fills the FM 1960 corridor, Spring Branch and the older west side, where walls are rarely square and the useful space is never a multiple of three.

Custom cabinetry solves the room you have.

What We Build

Kitchen Cabinetry

Full runs designed around how the kitchen gets used: drawer banks sized to your cookware instead of standard depths, pantry storage that reaches the ceiling rather than stopping at a soffit line, and appliance openings dimensioned to the appliances you actually bought. When a kitchen is being rebuilt anyway, cabinetry is the component that determines whether the finished room works daily or merely photographs well. See kitchen and bathroom remodeling for the full scope.

Bathroom Vanities

Built to the wall length available, with drawer configurations that clear the plumbing rather than fighting it. In small Houston bathrooms, two or three inches of recovered width changes how the room functions, and that is exactly what stock sizing throws away.

Built-Ins and Storage

Bookcases, window seats, entertainment walls, mudroom lockers and laundry cabinetry. Built-ins are also the most effective way to make use of the awkward spaces that older floor plans leave behind, such as the dead corner beside a fireplace or the recess left by a removed closet.

Office and Study Millwork

Desks, shelving and file storage built as part of the room. Since home offices became permanent for many households, this has become steady work, and running the electrical for it while the wall is open is far cheaper than adding outlets afterward.

Building Cabinets for This Climate

  • Wood moves with humidity

Gulf Coast air swings enough seasonally that solid wood expands and contracts noticeably. Correct construction accounts for it: panels that float in their frames, joinery that allows movement, and finish applied to all faces including the backs and edges. Cabinets built without that allowance telegraph it through cracked joints and warped doors, usually within the first two years.

  • Moisture reaches the boxes

Under-sink cabinets and bathroom vanities live in the wettest spots in the house. Plywood boxes handle that far better than particle board, which swells permanently once it gets wet and never recovers.

  • The old ones hid things

Removing a 1970s soffit or an original cabinet run frequently exposes ductwork, plumbing vents or wiring that was routed through the space the cabinets occupied. Building custom means designing around what is actually there instead of discovering it on install day.

How It Fits the Schedule

Cabinet fabrication has a real lead time, and countertop templating cannot begin until the boxes are installed and leveled. That sequence sets the back half of any kitchen schedule. We plan the ordering date backward from your target finish rather than treating it as a detail. The overall sequence is on our process page.

Frequently asked questions

They are worth it when the room does not match stock dimensions, which describes most older Houston kitchens. Stock cabinets come in three-inch increments and the leftover space becomes filler strips. Custom work uses the full wall, gets storage sized to what you actually own, and can work around the ductwork and plumbing vents that older homes hide in odd places.

Cabinet quality is decided by the box more than the door, and plywood boxes hold fasteners and resist moisture better than particle board. That difference matters more on the Gulf Coast than in a dry climate, particularly under sinks and in bathrooms. When you compare two cabinet bids, ask what the boxes and drawer bodies are made of before comparing prices.

Properly built doors will not, because the panel is designed to float within the frame and move with seasonal humidity. Trouble comes from doors glued rigid or finished on one face only, which is where warping and joint separation start. Finishing both faces, including the back and the edges, is standard practice for a reason in this climate.

Fabrication runs on a build schedule rather than a shelf, so the lead time drives the back half of any kitchen project. Countertop templating cannot start until the cabinets are installed and leveled, and counters then need their own fabrication window. That chain is the single most common reason kitchen timelines slip, so we schedule around it from the start.

Often yes, for an addition to an existing run or a new built-in meant to look original. Matching depends on the profile, the species and the finish, and an exact match on aged wood is difficult to promise because finishes shift with UV exposure over years. We will show you a sample against the existing work before building the run.
