Plumbing Services in Houston, TX

Repipes, drain lines, fixture setting and remodel rough-in, in a city where most of the pipe is under concrete.

In most Houston homes the supply and drain lines run under a concrete slab, which changes everything about how plumbing problems are found and fixed. There is no basement to walk through and no crawlspace to inspect. Diagnosis has to be right before anyone breaks concrete.

We run plumbing in house rather than subcontracting it, which keeps remodel schedules from stalling between rough-in and inspection.

What We Handle

Remodel and Addition Rough-In

Supply and drain work for new kitchens, bathrooms and added square footage, inspected before the walls close. Moving a fixture away from its existing rough-in means reaching the drain line under the slab, either by cutting the concrete or tunneling beneath it. That single decision often moves a bathroom budget more than every finish selection combined, which is why we raise it during the walkthrough rather than after demolition.

Repipes

Replacing aged supply lines throughout a house, in PEX or copper. Fewer joints and better freeze tolerance have made PEX the common choice for repipes, though the right material depends on how the lines can actually be routed through your walls and attic.

Drain Line Replacement

Cast iron drain lines in 1960s and 1970s homes corrode from the inside out. A camera inspection shows the real condition rather than the guessed one, and doing that work before a major remodel is far cheaper than discovering a collapsed line under a floor you just paid for.

Slab Leak Detection and Repair

Locating the leak first, then choosing between repair in place, rerouting the line overhead, or a partial repipe. Rerouting is frequently the better answer, because breaking concrete in one spot to fix a fifty-year-old line often means doing it again elsewhere within a few years.

Water Heaters and Fixtures

Tank and tankless installation, and setting fixtures during remodels. Tankless conversions have real requirements around gas supply sizing, venting and combustion air that a straight swap does not, and those requirements belong in the estimate rather than in a surprise.

What Houston Does to Plumbing

  • Everything is under concrete

Slab-on-grade construction dominates here, so both diagnosis and repair are more involved than in regions with basements. This is the single biggest reason plumbing costs more in a Houston remodel than homeowners expect.

  • Soil movement stresses pipe

The same expansive clay that cracks drywall puts stress on lines running through and under the slab. Older, more brittle materials fail first.

  • Cold is rare and therefore dangerous

The February 2021 freeze burst pipes across the region because attic and exterior wall runs here were never insulated for sustained cold. Knowing where your main shutoff is, and insulating exposed runs, is inexpensive insurance against a repeat.

  • Humidity hides leaks poorly and rewards finding them fast

A slow leak inside a wall grows mold quickly in this climate, which is why we verify a cavity is dry before our drywall crew closes it.

Part of a Larger Project

Plumbing rough-in runs alongside electrical, ahead of drywall, and returns at the end for fixture setting. Both trades being in house means one inspection window and no waiting on another company’s calendar. See the process page, or kitchen and bathroom remodeling for where this work usually sits.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

The common signs are a water bill that jumped without explanation, a warm spot on the floor, the sound of running water with everything shut off, or unexplained damp flooring. Because supply lines run under the concrete in most Houston homes, a leak there does real damage before it becomes visible. Leak detection comes before any repair work is priced.

Homes built through the 1960s and 1970s commonly drain through cast iron lines that are now at or past their service life. Cast iron corrodes from the inside, so the failure is gradual and hidden until it backs up or breaks under the slab. A camera inspection shows the actual condition, which is worth doing before a major remodel rather than after new floors go down.

Both are code-compliant, and PEX has become the common choice for repipes because it uses fewer joints and resists freeze damage better. It can also be routed through walls and attic with less demolition than copper. Copper remains a good material with a longer track record. The right answer depends on the layout of your house and how the lines can be routed.

The February 2021 freeze exposed how vulnerable Houston plumbing is to sustained cold, since attic and exterior wall runs here were rarely insulated for it. If your house had a burst then, the repair may have addressed the failure without addressing the exposure. Insulating vulnerable runs and knowing where your main shutoff is are both cheap protection.

Yes, and it is most of the plumbing we do. Relocating a sink, toilet or shower on a slab means cutting or tunneling to reach the drain line, which is usually the largest single cost variable in a bathroom remodel. Keeping fixtures near their existing rough-in saves substantial money, and we identify that tradeoff at the walkthrough.

New or relocated plumbing requires a permit and inspection, while direct fixture replacement in the same location generally does not. Ask anyone you hire how the permit will be pulled and who meets the inspector. We pull the permit in the company name and meet the inspector, so the record stays with the property.
